Webster’s defines a “belt” as an area or zone distinguished from others in some way”. The Concord Grape Belt is distinguished by a narrow strip of land approximately 60 miles long by 2 – 6 miles wide bordered by Lake Erie to the North and the Allegany Plateau Escarpment to the South and it provides the ideal climate for growing many varieties of grapes.
